america’s 100 greatest public golf courses - golf digest 2023

#78

The next addition to the Big Cedar Golf family and the Branson golf community is here! Payne’s Valley, designed by Tiger Woods and his TGR Design firm, is the first public access course designed by Woods, and undoubtedly clears the bar already set by the rest of the Big Cedar Golf family which includes Buffalo Ridge Springs (Tom Fazio), Top of the Rock (Jack Nicklaus), Mountain Top (Gary Player), and Ozarks National (Coore & Crenshaw). Payne’s Valley pays tribute to local Ozarks native and World Golf Hall of Fame member Payne Stewart.

Payne’s Valley adds yet another world class Branson golf course to what is already one of the greatest golf destinations in America.

Top 3 Things We Like About Payne’s Valley:

  1. It honors Ozarks native, Payne Stewart, who was a great ambassador for the game and one of its most colorful personalities.

  2. The 19th hole. What a spectacular way to end a round on this memorable golf course.

  3. The greens. Very large and undulating. Precision on and around these greens will dictate how well you score.

Our Best Advice:

  1. Bring a short game.

  2. Enjoy the views of neighboring Buffalo Ridge Springs across the valley and the massive rock formations.

  3. Arrive early to enjoy the Tom Watson putting course (see #1).

Our Favorite Hole:

#4 par 5. A short par 5 with a downhill approach to the green, which must carry water in front. Tempting to get there in 2, but you have to hit the shot.

Little Known Fact:

Payne’s Valley is built on the property that used to be home of the front 9 of John Daly’s Murder Rock Golf Club.
